State Representative Rick Tillis To Carry Legislation On Behalf Of House Leadership, Governor

(NASHVILLE) — House Majority Leader Glen Casada (R–Thompson’s Station) announced this week that State Representative Rick Tillis (R–Lewisburg) has been chosen to shepherd House Bill 320 through the legislative process on behalf of Republican leadership.

House Bill 320 is part of Governor Haslam’s legislative package for the year, which is traditionally handled by the House Majority Leader. Because of Representative Tillis’ leadership abilities, however, he was handpicked to lead the charge in getting the legislation passed and will handle all details relating to the bill.

“In his short time here in Nashville, Representative Tillis has already proven himself as an extremely intelligent and capable member of the General Assembly,” said Majority Leader Casada. “I have full confidence in Rick’s ability to shepherd this important bill through the legislative process, and I look forward to working with him even more in the coming weeks.”

House Bill 320 is a pro-business bill that makes three taxpayer-friendly reforms to Tennessee’s franchise and excise tax payment requirements, including extending the deadline for F&E taxes, reducing the penalty for late applications, and creating a process for the annualization of tax payments to help save money for businesses across the state.

“As a small business owner, this is the kind of common sense legislation that we need to make it easier for small business owners to be successful and create jobs in Tennessee,” said Representative Tillis.

The full text of House Bill 320 can be accessed by visiting the Tennessee General Assembly website at: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/110/Bill/HB0320.pdf.

Rick Tillis serves as a member of the House Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee and Subcommittee, as well as the House Business & Utilities Committee. He lives in Lewisburg and represents House District 92, which includes Marshall and part of Lincoln, Franklin, and Marion Counties. He can be reached by email at [email protected] or by calling (615) 741-4170.
