Measure Sponsored By Representative Travis Enhancing Consumer Protections Passes In House Chamber

(NASHVILLE) — This week, House Republicans unanimously supported passage of legislation sponsored by State Representative Ron Travis (R-Dayton) that strengthens Tennessee’s consumer protection laws.

House Bill 1879 — which passed by a 91-0 vote tally — prohibits members of the healthcare industry from soliciting business from victims of accidents or natural disasters for a period of 30 days following an incident. The measure exempts providers who have prior family or professional relationships with victims.

It is designed to protect Tennesseans involved in these types of incidents from unwanted solicitations so that they can focus on their road to recovery.

“Our residents who are involved in accidents or natural disasters have enough to worry about as they work to restore normalcy in their daily lives,” said Chairman Travis. “I am pleased that House Bill 1879 will assist them by reducing stresses caused by unwanted disruptions as they recover.”
