Rep. Gant and Sen. Gresham announce $420,000 in major community block grants for Town of Somerville

NASHVILLE, Tenn.– State Rep. Ron Gant (R-Rossville) and State Sen. Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville) announced today that the Town of Somerville will receive $420,000 in Community Development Block (CDBG) Grant funding for the construction of a new fire department.

The lawmakers made the announcement in conjunction with an announcement by Governor Bill Lee and the Department of Economic and Community Development regarding the award of CDBG grants statewide

“Fire protection is a critical need for our citizens,” said Senator Gresham, who strongly supported the grant application. “This kind of infrastructure is very important to the well-being of our citizens and to the overall economic development of our county.”

“Our firefighters, emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, and all of our first responders are some of our modern day heroes, and these grant dollars are a small way we can continue to thank and support them for the selfless sacrifices they make each and every day,” said Rep. Gant. “I appreciate Sen. Gresham, our Department of Economic and Community Development, as well as our local leaders for their partnership in helping us secure this impactful award for the Town of Somerville.”

All funding is allocated under a procedure authorized by the Tennessee General Assembly.  ECD administers this program based on priorities set at the local level where community needs are best known.
