State Rep. Andrew Farmer to Chair Civil Justice Committee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, has named State Rep. Andrew Farmer, R-Sevierville, chairman of the House Civil Justice Committee for the 112th General Assembly.

The 17-member House Civil Justice Committee oversees laws governing Tennessee’s civil laws, judicial proceedings, and matters related to the courts and civil law issues.

“Andrew Farmer is a dedicated public servant whose institutional knowledge and legal experience make him the ideal member to chair our House Civil Justice Committee,” said Speaker Sexton. “I am confident he will do an incredible job, and I appreciate his willingness to answer the call to serve as chair.”

Farmer, an attorney from Sevier County, is serving his fifth term representing District 17 in the House of Representatives. Since then, he has been a powerful advocate for his district and has been instrumental in shaping legislative policy. He currently serves on the Criminal Justice, Civil Justice, and Calendar and Rules committees.

“This committee will continue working hard on behalf of Tennessee taxpayers to advance and create innovative solutions for complex issues important to our civil justice system,” Farmer said. “I am deeply honored that Speaker Sexton has entrusted me with this responsibility and I look forward to serving.”
