State Representative Ron Gant And House Insurance & Banking Committee Members Produce Strong 2017 Results

(NASHVILLE) – Throughout the first half of the 110th Tennessee General Assembly, State Representative Ron Gant (R-Rossville) was an active member of an extremely productive House Insurance & Banking Committee that advanced a total of 23 legislative initiatives. Eighteen of these bills were signed into law by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam.

These initiatives supported business growth and development, cut prescription and health care costs, and improve communication between providers and patients. Some of the legislation includes:

  • House Bill 18: Reduces the cost burden of prescription eye drop refills for patients.
  • House Bill 77: Clarifies guidelines for insurance coverage of off-highway vehicles.
  • House Bill 150: Increases totals paid out to benefactors of deceased investors.
  • House Bill 280: Revises fee provisions for owners under the vehicle insurance verification program.
  • House Bill 304: Promotes business growth by reducing government regulations.
  • House Bill 338: Lowers health care costs and improves the quality of care public elementary and secondary school students receive.
  • House Bill 405: Protects licensed pharmacists from discrimination by managed health insurance providers.
  • House Bill 498: Improves communication between health providers and patients.

“I am proud of the work we did in these important focus areas during the 2017 legislative session in order to help Tennessee businesses continue to grow, reduce health care costs for our residents and clarify statewide insurance guidelines and regulations,” said Representative Gant. “The men and women who serve on this committee and as members of our state’s governing body continue to make Tennessee better for future generations and enable our state to serve as a model that our entire country can follow. I look forward to continuing our work together when we reconvene in 2018.”

Ron Gant serves as the Majority Assistant Floor Leader. He is also a member of the House Health Committee and the House Calendar and Rules Committee, as well as the House Insurance & Banking Sub and Full Committees. Gant lives in Rossville and represents House District 94, which includes Fayette, McNairy, and part of Hardeman County. He can be reached by email at: [email protected] or by calling (615) 741-6890.
