State Representative Ron Travis Congratulates Local School Districts For 2018 TNReady Testing Result

(NASHVILLE) — State Representative Ron Travis (R-Dayton) today congratulated both the Roane County School District and Sequatchie County Schools for achieving Level 5 distinction in all tested subjects as part of 2018 TNReady testing.

The majority of Tennessee’s 147 districts met or exceeded growth expectations while 11 earned Level 5 distinction — the highest level of growth — across all tested subject-areas including literacy, numeracy, science, and social studies.

Student growth has been calculated in Tennessee for almost three decades. These scores — known as Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS) scores — measure year-to-year student growth. They are calculated by comparing a student’s performance relative to the performance of his or her peers who have achieved similar results on past assessments.

Growth scores are important because they look at how much students are growing, regardless of proficiency. When they are captured together with TNReady results — which examine overall achievement — they provide a more accurate depiction of a student’s academic performance.

“These remarkable accomplishments during our latest round of TNReady testing are the result of the tireless effort and energy invested by our students, educators, and staff members at our fine institutions over the last several years,” said Representative Travis.  “I want to congratulate them and the parents of our school children for making these great strides academically, and I know that the real reward is the educational success that awaits our students in future years.”
