Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association Endorses State Representative Matthew Hill

(NASHVILLE) — State Representative Matthew Hill (R-Jonesborough) today received an endorsement from the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association (TPFFA) in his re-election bid for the 7th House District.

The TPFFA partners with elected officials like Representative Hill to support all persons engaged in full-time firefighting, fire prevention, fire instructors, EMS, fire/EMS dispatch and other emergency related services in the state of Tennessee. It includes approximately 30 affiliates with an estimated 4,500 active and retired statewide members.

“I am grateful that the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association has chosen to support my re-election efforts,” said Representative Hill. “It is an honor to partner with them to advocate on behalf of our fire fighters, emergency personnel, and first responders as they work to better protect our communities.”

“Representative Matthew Hill is a fighter for first responders,” said TPFFA President Eddie Smith.  “He has supported fire fighter and EMS workers since he was first elected.  This year, his support was critical in passing legislation giving fire fighters and EMS workers better access to mental health services to help them deal with PTSD.  Representative Hill stands with us so we stand with him and wish him success in the November election.”

This year, Representative Hill sponsored House Bill 1510, also known as the Tennessee Public Safety & Behavioral Health Act. It provides Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workers and professional firefighters with access to support services at no cost in an effort to assist in the treatment of mental and behavioral health issues — including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

These dedicated, public service employees will respond to thousands of calls during their careers, and unfortunately, some will remain with them forever. In cases involving PTSD, counseling services may help them cope.

“Our fire fighters, EMS workers, and first responders deserve our appreciation and our support. I am eager to continue working for them to address their future needs as a member of our General Assembly,” Representative Hill concluded.

Representative Matthew Hill is a member of the House Finance, Ways, & Means Committee as well as the House Health Subcommittee, Health Committee, and Rules Subcommittee.  He lives in Jonesborough and represents House District 7, which covers half of Washington County.
