NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Mark Cochran, R-Englewood, and State Sen. Tom Hatcher, R-Maryville, have secured $131,350 in state funding for Monroe County to improve road safety near the Tellico Convenience Center in Tellico Plains.
The funding will be used to construct a turn lane on State Route 68 into the convenience center, which allows Monroe County residents to dispose of household waste.
“This funding will address a serious need and ensure Monroe County residents can easily utilize the Tellico Convenience Center,” the lawmakers said. “Safe and efficient infrastructure is essential for the success of local communities. We thank our colleagues for recognizing the importance of this much-needed upgrade and look forward to the completion of this turn lane.”
The Tellico Convenience Center is one of five recycling centers in Monroe County where residents can dispose of certain materials at no cost. For more information, please visit the Monroe County Department of Solid Waste website.
The appropriated funds are part of a $59.8 billion balanced budget passed by lawmakers in April. Republican priorities include significant investments to improve academic outcomes, provide disaster relief for victims of Hurricane Helene, enhance public safety for all Tennesseans and increase funding to address transportation infrastructure needs.
Assistant Majority Leader Mark Cochran of Englewood represents District 23 in the Tennessee House of Representatives, which includes McMinn and part of Monroe counties. Sen. Tom Hatcher of Maryville represents District 2 in the Tennessee Senate, which includes Blount, Monroe, Polk, and part of Bradley counties.
