NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Bryan Terry, R-Murfreesboro, joined several mental health industry experts on July 7 for a forum to discuss mental health in the community and state.
The panel addressed issues including provider access, mental health in primary care, suicide prevention and common misconceptions surrounding mental health.
“I was honored to join a panel of professionals for an important discussion on mental health in Tennessee,” Terry said. “As a physician and lawmaker, I recognize the critical need for accessible, quality care in our communities. Events like this help reduce stigma and promote collaboration within the industry. I remain committed to advancing legislation that strengthens mental health coverage and support for all Tennesseans.”
The event was hosted by Break-Thru TN, an organization that supports individuals in underserved and rural neighborhoods across Middle Tennessee with resources and essential items such as food, hygiene products, clothing and school supplies, according to their website.

Terry currently serves as chairman of the House Health Committee and has carried and co-sponsored numerous pieces of legislation focused on mental health during his time in the General Assembly.
Most recently, Terry co-sponsored legislation expanding mental health coverage in Tennessee. The new law requires health benefit plans that cover mental health and substance abuse to reimburse those services through a Psychiatric Collaborative Care Model (PCCM).
Bryan Terry, MD, represents House District 48 which includes the eastern half of Rutherford County.
