State Rep. David Hawk, R-Greeneville, is reminding Tennesseans to take advantage of the state’s upcoming sales tax holiday scheduled for July 25–27.
The annual event allows families to stretch their budgets by offering tax-free purchases on many back-to-school items.
“For parents and students preparing for the new school year, this is a great opportunity to save on essential supplies,” Hawk said. “We want to make sure every family knows they can shop tax-free and keep more money in their pockets.”
During the three-day period, shoppers will not pay state sales tax on eligible items, including:
- Clothing items costing $100 or less each, including shoes, shirts, pants, socks and dresses
- School and art supplies priced at $100 or less, such as backpacks, crayons, notebooks and calculators
- Personal-use computers, laptops and tablets priced at $1,500 or less
The tax exemption applies to both in-store and online purchases, provided the items meet state eligibility criteria. A complete list of qualifying items is available on the Tennessee Department of Revenue’s website.
Tennessee remains one of the lowest-taxed states in the nation and does not impose a personal income tax. Since 2012, the Republican supermajority in the General Assembly has enacted more than $5.1 billion in tax cuts.
