State Rep. John Crawford, R-Bristol/Kingsport, is urging families to take advantage of Tennessee’s annual sales tax holiday, which runs from Friday, July 25 through Sunday, July 27.
During the tax-free weekend, shoppers can purchase select clothing, school supplies and computers without paying sales tax. The exemption also applies to eligible online purchases, as long as items are intended for personal use and not for business or resale.
“This tax break gives hardworking families a chance to save money on essential back-to-school items,” Crawford said. “I’m proud to support policies that offer real relief while keeping Tennessee among the most fiscally responsible states in the nation.”
Tax-exempt items include:
- General apparel priced at $100 or less per item (shirts, pants, shoes, dresses, etc.)
- School and art supplies costing $100 or less per item (backpacks, binders, crayons, pencils, etc.)
- Personal-use computers, including laptops and tablets, priced at $1,500 or less

Tennessee continues to rank among the lowest-taxed states and does not impose a personal income tax. Since 2012, the Republican-led General Assembly has delivered more than $5.1 billion in tax relief to Tennesseans.
