NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Jay Reedy, R-Erin, announced $300,000 in funding was awarded to the Johnsonville State Historic Park.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) will administer the grant through the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) which was approved by the General Assembly in the 2025-26 state budget.

“Johnsonville State Historic Park has been a pillar of the community for more than 50 years and holds deep historical significance,” Reedy said. “These upgrades will enhance accessibility and improve the overall visitor experience for years to come.”

Park leaders plan to use the funding to renovate the park restrooms. They will install three prefabricated vault toilet units to replace existing portable toilet units for park guests.

Prefabricated vault toilet units are pre-built restrooms designed for areas without plumbing or electricity, collecting waste in sealed underground vaults without the need for water or sewer connections.

RTP provides federal funding to match local government investments in trailhead support facilities, land acquisition for trails and trail construction, rehabilitation and maintenance.

More than $22 million has been administered to 33 communities across the state by TDEC this year through RTP, Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF) and the Tennessee Recreation Initiative Program (TRIP).
