NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Ron Travis, R-Dayton, is congratulating the city of Dunlap for receiving a $525,000 grant awarded through the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s (TDEC) Office of Outdoor Recreation. The funding was awarded through the Recreational Trails Program and the Grant Opportunity Fund (Go Fund).
The funding is part of more than $20 million in grant awards recently announced by TDEC to improve parks and outdoor recreation across Tennessee. Dunlap’s award will support the Dunlap Pump Track Park project.
“These investments help strengthen our rural communities,” said Travis. “Our parks and trails are not only part of what makes Sequatchie County special, but the entire Volunteer State. This funding will provide more opportunities for families to get outdoors, stay active and enjoy all our community has to offer.”
The Office of Outdoor Recreation is partnering TDEC on several projects to make funding more accessible for local communities by providing a portion of the required match through the Grant Opportunity Fund, which is available exclusively to distressed and at-risk rural communities, awarded $6.8 million in matching funds across this round of projects.
The Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF) received $18,490,470 and requires an equal match. The state-funded program supports local investments in parks, natural areas, greenways, recreation facilities, trail development and related capital projects.
The city of Dunlap is one of 19 communities across Tennessee receiving funding through this round of Local Parks and Recreation Fund and Recreational Trails Program grants. The Recreational Trails Program is federally funded and state-administered and supports land acquisition for trails, non-routine trail maintenance, trail construction, trail rehabilitation and trailhead facilities.
