NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Ed Butler, R-Rickman, is congratulating the city of Sunbright on receiving a $92,000 grant to develop a new recreation trail at Sunbright City Park, expanding opportunities for residents and families to enjoy the outdoors in Morgan County.
Awarded through the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s (TDEC) Recreational Trails Program (RTP), the funding will support development of the new trail and enhance recreational opportunities available to the community. The Sunbright project is part of more than $20 million recently announced by TDEC for parks and recreation projects in 19 communities across Tennessee.
“Investments in our local parks strengthen communities and create spaces where families can spend time together, stay active and enjoy the natural beauty that makes the Volunteer State such a special place to call home,” said Butler. “This new trail will be an asset for the city of Sunbright for years to come and I’m grateful to see these resources invested in a project that will directly improve quality of life for our residents.”
The Recreational Trails Program is a federally funded, state-administered program that supports the development and improvement of recreational trails throughout Tennessee. Funding may be used for new trail construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of existing trails, land acquisition and trailhead support facilities. RTP awards provide 80% of eligible project funding with a 20% match based on the total project cost.
Rep. Butler represents District 41, which includes Overton, Morgan and part of Anderson, Fentress and Roane counties.
