NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Assistant House Majority Leader Mark Cochran, R-Englewood, today announced $145,000 in funding for three senior centers in Monroe and McMinn counties.

The Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging (DDA) will administer the funding, which the Tennessee General Assembly approved in the 2026-27 state budget. The McMinn County Senior Activity Center and Monroe County Senior Citizens and Friends each received $50,000, while the Etowah Area Senior Citizens Center received $45,000.

“Senior centers are vital to the fabric and well-being of our communities,” said Cochran. “We are blessed with several quality facilities that offer services, classes, and support that make a meaningful difference in the lives of McMinn and Monroe County residents. I’m grateful to the volunteers and staff who dedicate their time to serving others, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact of these funds.”

The Etowah Area Senior Center will use its grant for restroom improvements, new kitchen appliances, activity room chairs, and other building enhancements. The center will also use the funds to expand class offerings, improve its library, and assist with routine business expenses.

Monroe County Senior Citizens and Friends will use its grant to install four HVAC units. The McMinn County Senior Activity Center will use the funding for operating expenses to help keep the center open and serving residents.

The DDA awarded $5 million to 122 senior centers in 71 counties across Tennessee. Individual grants range from $5,000 to $50,000. Funding can support capital projects, marketing, programming, activities and routine operating expenses.
