Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, has appointed State Rep. Dennis Powers, R-Jacksboro, as chairman of the House Private Acts Committee for the 114th General Assembly.
“Representative Dennis Powers is a dedicated public servant with a strong understanding of local governance,” said Speaker Sexton. “As chairman of the Private Acts Committee, Dennis will ensure that local issues are addressed thoughtfully, they are following the state constitution and laws for the benefit of communities across Tennessee.”
The 12-member committee will hear consideration of bills specific to local municipalities and counties.
“I am honored to serve as chairman of the House Private Acts Committee, and I look forward to working diligently with my fellow Representatives to ensure that local issues are addressed in a way that upholds the values and laws of our state,” said Rep. Dennis Powers. “We will continue to focus on making sure that Tennessee’s communities are empowered and that our laws reflect the best interests of our citizens.”
First elected in 2010, Powers is serving his eighth term representing House District 36. In addition to chairing the Private Acts Committee, he will serve on the Judiciary Committee, Children and Family Affairs Subcommittee, State and Local Government Committee, Calendar and Rules Committee and Departments and Agencies Subcommittee during this legislative session.
