NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. William Slater, R-Gallatin, was appointed Jan. 16 by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to serve as chair of the House Education Administration Subcommittee for the 114th Tennessee General Assembly.

“Representative Slater is committed to advancing common-sense educational policies in Tennessee,” said Sexton. “As chairman of the Education Administration Subcommittee, William’s leadership will help improve outcomes for students and schools while focusing on the administrative aspect of public education.”

The Education Administration Subcommittee is an arm of the House Education Committee, which deals with bills relating to education. It is charged with considering legislation concerning discipline policy, health, safety and security.   

“All Tennessee students deserve a quality education to prepare them for their careers and life after graduation,” Slater said. “House Republicans have prioritized improving public education and I remain committed to ensuring schools, students, educators and faculty have the resources and tools required to thrive. I’m grateful to Speaker Sexton for appointing me to chair this important subcommittee and I’m eager to get to work for the people of Tennessee.”

Slater, a dean of Welch College in Gallatin and former headmaster of Hendersonville Christian Academy, has represented District 35 in the House of Representatives since 2023. He previously served as vice chair of the House Education Administration Committee.

During the 114th General Assembly, Slater will also serve on the Education Committee, K-12 Subcommittee, and Insurance Committee.

The 114th General Assembly officially convened on Jan. 14 and completed its organizational meeting with the appointment of committees by Speaker Sexton.

State Rep. William Slater represents House District 35, which includes Trousdale and part of Sumner counties.
