NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Ryan Williams, R-Cookeville, was appointed Jan. 16 by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to serve as chairman of the House Finance, Ways and Means Subcommittee for the 114th Tennessee General Assembly.

“Representative Ryan Williams brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and a strong commitment to fiscal responsibility,” said Sexton. “As budget sub chairman of Finance, Ways and Means, which is the most powerful subcommittee, Ryan will play a vital role in ensuring sound financial stewardship for the people of Tennessee.”

The Finance, Ways and Means Subcommittee is an arm of the Finance, Ways and Means Committee, which is responsible for all measures relating to the general appropriations of state funds; the deposit of public monies; all measures relating to taxes and the raising of revenue, bonds and bonding revenue, the issuance, payment or retirement of bonds, the evidence of indebtedness; and assessment and collection of property taxes.

“Tennessee is one of the most fiscally responsible states in the nation because our leaders put people first,” Williams said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue making strategic investments that allow the Volunteer State’s economy to thrive. It’s an honor to be appointed chair of this committee and I thank Speaker Sexton for his confidence in me.”

Williams, a Cookeville business development professional, has represented District 42 in the House of Representatives since 2011.

During the 114 General Assembly, Williams will also serve on the Finance, Ways and Means Committee, Health Committee, Select Committee on Rules, Appropriations and Oversight Committee, and Health Subcommittee.

Tennessee Republicans remain committed to keeping taxes low. Tennessee holds the highest bond rating issued by all three of the nation’s credit rating agencies, which reflects extreme confidence in the Volunteer State’s preparedness in meeting financial commitments in tough economic times.

The 114th General Assembly officially convened on Jan. 14 and completed its organizational meeting with the appointment of committees by Speaker Sexton.

State Rep. Ryan Williams represents House District 42, which includes part of Putnam County.
