NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Clay Doggett, R-Pulaski, was appointed Jan. 24 by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to serve on the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST), the primary regulatory body for law enforcement in Tennessee.
“I’m incredibly honored to be selected to serve on the POST Commission and I thank Speaker Sexton for his confidence in me,” Doggett said. “Working in law enforcement comes with extremely high stakes, and upholding proper standards and quality training is necessary for these men and women to safely do their jobs. I’m committed to ensuring all police officers in the Volunteer State have the tools, experience and support required to serve the public well.”
The Commission enforces and develops training and standards for all local police officers in Tennessee. It also promotes continuing law enforcement training and certifies instructors, specialized schools and curricula.
“Chairman Doggett’s appointment to the POST Commission reflects his strong commitment to law enforcement and public safety,” said Sexton. “As a former law enforcement officer himself, his leadership will help ensure Tennessee’s LEOs receive the highest quality training and uphold the highest standards of professionalism.
Doggett, a former law enforcement officer and chair of the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee, will serve a two-year term ending Nov. 4, 2026. He is a graduate of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy (TLEAT) Class 1523.
“The POST Commission is vital to maintaining high standards for the law enforcement profession in Tennessee,” said POST executive secretary and TLEAT executive director William “Chip” Kain. The regulatory work performed by the Commission is one reason 7 million Tennesseans trust in our police officers and deputies across the state. The addition of Rep. Doggett to the POST Commission demonstrates the importance of this body to our state and the gravity with which our appointing authorities hold the work of the Commission. Rep. Doggett will bring a wealth of knowledge from his experience in the General Assembly and his experience as a law enforcement officer.”
The 14-member commission includes local law enforcement personnel and other Tennessee residents.
State Rep. Clay Doggett represents House District 70, which includes Giles and part of Lawrence and Lincoln counties.
