NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Bryan Terry, R-Murfreesboro, recognized the Oakland High School football team for their state championship win in the Tennessee House of Representatives on March 3.
The Oakland Patriots, led by coach Kevin Creasy, secured the 2024 TSSAA Division I 6A state football title with a win over Houston High School in the BlueCross Bowl on Dec. 7. This victory marks the school’s fourth championship in the last five years, and its eighth overall.
“State championships are earned through hard work, dedication and teamwork, all qualities the Patriots demonstrated throughout their exceptional season,” Terry said. “I’m incredibly proud to have this strong group of young men representing Rutherford County and thrilled to see another gold football in the trophy case.”
The Patriots’ postseason journey included wins over Lebanon, Mt. Juliet, county-rival Riverdale and Maryville before their final victory over Houston. Oakland finished the season 14-1.
Kevin Creasy, who has been with the Patriots since 2015, has led the team to state semifinal or championship games for the past 10 years. He is also a member of the Tennessee Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
House Joint Resolution 29 was unanimously passed by both chambers of the General Assembly, and signed by Gov. Bill Lee.
Bryan Terry, MD, represents House District 48 which includes the eastern half of Rutherford County.
