NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee House of Representatives has approved a resolution calling for a voluntary, annual period of statewide prayer and fasting across the Volunteer State.

State Rep. Monty Fritts, R-Kingston, led passage of House Joint Resolution 51 encouraging Tennesseans who feel called by God and are physically able to join in a time of prayer and intermittent fasting from July 1 to July 31 each year.

“We face many challenges as a state that legislation and funding won’t fix,” Fritts said. “After visiting all 95 counties last year during the Month of Prayer and Fasting, I saw how deeply Tennesseans feel this need. I believe it’s important to seek the Lord, as our founding fathers did, and I encourage anyone led to join with fellow Believers across the State in seeking God’s forgiveness and mercy.”

The resolution seeks God’s hand of mercy and healing due to the increase in violence, drug addiction and family breakdowns in many Tennessee homes and beyond.

What might this time of prayer and fasting look like for your county?

  • Examine your lives in the light of God’s Word, confess your sins, and seek Almighty God’s Will for your lives
  • Ask for His forgiveness and mercy, and commit to stand firmly on the principles of God
  • Join in prayer and intermittent fasting, during the month of July, as a means of demonstrating your desire for repentance
  • Gather with friends and neighbors at the County Courthouse or at local churches, read House Joint Resolution 51 and pray together for the community, our state, and our nation

House Joint Resolution 51 now heads to the Senate for consideration.

Monty Fritts represents District 32 which includes part of Loudon and Roane Counties.
