State Rep. Sabi “Doc” Kumar, R-Springfield, announced today he secured $37.5 million for a new Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) facility in Springfield as part of the state’s 2025-26 balanced budget.

The funding will support construction of a new, approximately 50,000-square-foot educational complex at the Springfield TCAT campus, designed to accommodate up to six technical programs and serve up to 225 students.

“This project is the result of strong partnerships and a shared vision,” Kumar said. “I look forward to continuing to work with our city and county leaders, along with education partners, to make this project a success. Together, we’re not only expanding educational opportunities, we are laying the foundation for stronger families, stronger businesses and a stronger Robertson County.”

Kumar led the effort to secure new funding for the Springfield TCAT campus. Over the past two years, he has worked closely with House leadership, the House Finance Committee, the Tennessee Board of Regents and TCAT Nashville officials to develop plans for the new site.

The project will also expand dual enrollment opportunities for high school students in Robertson County.

The $37.5 million appropriation was part of a $59.8 billion balanced budget passed by the General Assembly in April.

The TCAT Nashville system operates four campuses across the state, with Springfield serving as the only site in Robertson County. In 2023, 639 students across the system earned a certificate or diploma and 82% secured employment in their field. That same year, the General Assembly committed nearly $1 billion to renovating and expanding TCATs statewide, reinforcing Tennessee’s investment in workforce development.
