NASHVILLE, Tenn. — State Rep. Timothy Hill, R-Blountville, announced the late Johnson County Sheriff Eddie Tester will have a Mountain City bridge named in his honor.

The bridge is on Lakeview Drive spanning Watauga Lake near the State Route 167 (Roan Creek Road/Doe Creek Road) intersection.

“Sheriff Tester was a pillar in the community and a dear friend of mine. He was a tireless servant who was always there if you needed him,” Hill said. “I’m thankful we will be able to keep his memory alive with a bridge in his name. I hope everyone can take some time out of their weekend to join us as we honor his legacy.”

Tester spent the majority of his life serving the community. He was a certified nursing assistant (CNA) before becoming a dispatcher and eventually a deputy for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department (JCSD). He served as a Tennessee State Trooper for nearly 20 years. He spent the final five years of his life as sheriff.

He also spent several years with the Johnson County Rescue Squad, Trade Volunteer Fire Department and Mountain City Fire Department.

The bridge dedication ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 28, at 11:00 a.m. EST at the Johnson County Courthouse. The street address is 222 West Main Street in Mountain City.

The community is invited and encouraged to attend.

Timothy Hill represents District 3 which includes Johnson and part of Carter, Hawkins and Sullivan counties.
