State Rep. Tim Hicks, R-Gray, secured $50,000 in state funding to support the Johnson City Railroad Experience.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Tim Hicks, R-Gray, secured $50,000 in state funding to support the Johnson City Railroad Experience.
The funding was earmarked from the State Museum grant pool to support the museum’s programs and services, its historical collections, educational exhibits and immersive experiences.
“Johnson’s City history is deeply rooted in the railroad industry and it played a major role in shaping the community we know today,” Hicks said. “The Johnson City Railroad Experience preserves that legacy and brings it to life. I’m grateful to my colleagues in the General Assembly for supporting the museum and I look forward to seeing the positive impact this investment will have on our community.”
The Johnson City Railroad Experience, located in the heart of downtown, invites visitors to explore the stories of entrepreneurs like Henry Johnson and George L. Carter through engaging exhibits that highlight the pivotal role railroads played in the city’s founding, according to its website.
The appropriated funds are part of a $59.8 billion balanced budget passed by lawmakers in April. Republican priorities include significant investments to improve academic outcomes, provide disaster relief for victims or Hurricane Helene, enhance public safety for all Tennesseans and increase funding to address transportation needs.
Tim Hicks represents House District 6 which includes part of Washington County.
