State Rep. Ron Travis, R-Dayton, is encouraging families across Tennessee to take advantage of the state’s annual back-to-school sales tax holiday from July 25–27.

The three-day event allows shoppers to buy qualifying school-related items without paying state sales tax, offering relief to families preparing for the new school year.

“This is a great opportunity for parents to save money on essential back-to-school purchases,” Travis said. “Whether it’s clothing, classroom supplies or technology, this tax break helps ease the financial burden on families.”

During the tax-free weekend, eligible purchases include:

  • Clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less per item, including shirts, pants, shoes, socks and dresses
  • School and art supplies priced at $100 or less per item, such as backpacks, notebooks, crayons and calculators
  • Personal-use computers, laptops and tablets priced at $1,500 or less

The exemption applies to both in-store and online purchases, as long as the items meet state eligibility requirements. The Tennessee Department of Revenue’s website offers a full list of qualifying items.

Tennessee continues to rank among the lowest-taxed states in the nation and does not levy a personal income tax. Since 2012, the Republican-led General Assembly has delivered more than $5.1 billion in tax cuts.
