State Rep. Jody Barrett, R-Dickson, today announced the Buffalo-Duck River Resource Conservation and Development Council will receive $11,300 in state grant funding to support educational and community outreach efforts.

The award is part of $12.3 million included in the state’s 2025-26 budget to support the arts in both rural and urban communities across Tennessee. The Tennessee Arts Commission administers the grants.

“This funding will help bring more arts access and education to our local communities,” Barrett said. “Investing in the arts means investing in creativity, economic development and a better quality of life for Tennesseans of all ages.”

Grant recipients are selected through a competitive process that includes evaluations by citizen advisory panels with expertise in various arts disciplines, followed by final approval from the full commission.

“Tennessee is fortunate to be a state where few can rival the breadth and depth of its arts and culture,” said Anne B. Pope, executive director of the Tennessee Arts Commission. “Arts and culture are vital tools for attracting and retaining businesses and help build stronger communities by enhancing the distinctive character of Tennessee places.”

Tennessee’s nonprofit arts and culture sector generates $1.4 billion in annual economic activity, supports more than 23,400 full-time equivalent jobs and plays a critical role in education, tourism and community development.
