State Rep. Ed Butler, R-Rickman, today announced senior centers in Morgan, Roane and Overton counties will receive a combined $125,000 in state grants to improve facilities and expand services for older adults.

The funding is part of $5 million included in the 2025-26 state budget to support 125 senior centers across Tennessee. The Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging (DDA) administers the grants through a competitive process, with individual awards ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.

Local grant recipients include:

  • Deer Lodge Abner Ross Memorial Center: $50,000
  • Coalfield Senior Citizens: $25,000
  • Overton County Senior Citizens Center: $50,000

“Senior centers are an important part of community life,” Butler said. “This funding will help ensure they can continue offering programs and services that support the well-being and independence of older Tennesseans.”

Funds may be used for building improvements, equipment, marketing, activities, programming and other routine operating expenses, excluding staff salaries.
