State Rep. Jody Barrett, R-Dickson, today announced senior centers in Dickson, Hickman and Lewis counties will receive a combined $91,000 in state grants to improve facilities and expand services for older adults.

The funding is part of $5 million included in the 2025-26 state budget to support 125 senior centers across Tennessee. The Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging (DDA) administers the grants through a competitive process, with individual awards ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.

Local grant recipients include:

  • Dickson Senior Center: $23,000
  • Hickman County Senior Citizens Center: $50,000
  • Lewis County Senior Citizens Center: $18,000

“Our senior centers play a vital role in keeping older adults active, connected and supported,” Barrett said. “This funding ensures these facilities can continue meeting the needs of our communities for years to come.”

Funds may be used for building improvements, equipment, marketing, activities, programming and other routine operating expenses, excluding staff salaries.
