State Rep. Kelly Keisling, R-Byrdstown, today announced senior centers in Clay, Scott and Fentress counties will receive a combined $176,000 in state grants to improve facilities and expand services for older adults.
The grants are part of $5 million allocated in the 2025–26 state budget to support 125 senior centers across Tennessee. Funding is administered by the Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging (DDA).
Local grant recipients include:
- Clay County Senior Citizen Center: $50,000
- Fentress County Senior Citizens Center: $50,000
- Scott Appalachian Industries: $35,000
- Scott County Senior Citizen Center: $41,000
“Senior centers provide a welcoming place for older Tennesseans to stay active, engaged and connected,” Keisling said. “I’m proud to support this funding, which will help strengthen community services and improve the quality of life for seniors across Clay, Scott and Fentress counties.”
The DDA awards grants through a competitive process, with centers receiving between $10,000 and $50,000. Funds may be used for building improvements, equipment, marketing, activities, programming and other routine operating expenses, excluding staff salaries.
