State Rep. Ron Travis, R-Dayton, today announced senior centers in Bledsoe, Rhea, Sequatchie and Van Buren counties will receive a total of $154,000 in state grants to expand programming and improve services for older adults.

The funding, administered by the Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging (DDA), is part of $5 million allocated in the 2025–26 state budget to support 125 senior centers statewide.

Local funding recipients include:

  • Bledsoe County Senior Citizens Center: $50,000
  • Rhea Richland Senior Neighbors: $50,000
  • Sequatchie County Senior Citizen Center: $32,000
  • Fall Creek Falls Community Center: $22,000

“These senior centers are a vital part of our communities,” Travis said. “They provide opportunities for older adults to stay active, connect with others and access important services. I’m proud to support these investments that will strengthen resources for seniors across our region.”

The DDA awards grants through a competitive process, with each center receiving between $10,000 and $50,000. Funds may be used for capital projects such as building improvements and equipment, as well as marketing, activities, programming and routine operating expenses, excluding staff salaries.
