NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Lowell Russell, R-Vonore, provided updates on a Monroe County resurfacing project and upcoming public meetings regarding the I-75/I-40 corridor study, which includes the interchange in Loudon County.
Construction to resurface a portion of SR-68 in Madisonville is anticipated to begin in mid-to-late July, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). The project will resurface SR-68 from Englewood Road to Notchy Creek.
TDOT crews recently patched areas of concern in preparation for the project. Department officials say maintenance personnel will continue monitoring the roadway and perform additional patching as needed until resurfacing begins.
“Road projects have a direct impact on people’s daily lives and I appreciate TDOT continuing to provide timely updates,” Russell said. “Whether it’s resurfacing existing roads or planning for future transportation improvements, keeping the public informed helps our communities stay engaged throughout the process.”
TDOT is continuing to conduct the Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study for the I-40/I-75 corridor in west Knoxville, which includes the I-40/I-75 interchange in Loudon County.
The study is evaluating existing traffic conditions and a wide range of potential improvements, including a possible bypass, according to the department.
TDOT is set to host a second round of public meetings in June and July. The three open-house-style meetings will include interactive and informative stations, providing an opportunity to learn more about the alternatives being evaluated and the next steps in the PEL study.
