NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. William Slater, R-Gallatin, recently toured the Enbridge Ridgeline Expansion Project in Trousdale County to learn more about the pipeline improvements and discuss its impact on energy reliability in Tennessee.

In coordination with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the 122-mile natural gas pipeline will expand Enbridge’s existing East Tennessee Natural Gas system to run from Trousdale County to Roane County.

“Reliable energy is essential for the long-term success and resiliency of Tennessee,” said Slater. “Strategic investments over the past decade have positioned our state as a leader in energy innovation, creating a more dependable network to help meet the needs of Tennessee families. Projects like this will strengthen that foundation by supporting a more affordable and secure energy supply for years to come.”

The pipeline will help replace the TVA’s Kingston Fossil Plant with natural gas. Construction began in October 2025 and is 75% complete, with an estimated in-service date of November 2026.

Tennessee Republicans have made significant gains in strengthening the state’s energy landscape in recent years, including through legislation to streamline the construction of critical infrastructure that crosses county lines, like pipelines and gas transmission lines. This year, Republicans approved the Tennessee Energy Freedom Act to support individuals and businesses involved in the production, sale and use of coal, oil and natural gas.

Today, Tennessee is the top state for nuclear energy and the second-best state in the nation for energy availability and costs.

State Rep. William Slater represents District 35 in the Tennessee General Assembly, which includes Trousdale and part of Sumner counties.
