NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. John Crawford, R-Bristol/Kingsport, today announced that $50,000 in funding has been awarded to the Slater Community Center in Bristol.
The Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging (DDA) will administer the grant, which the Tennessee General Assembly approved in the 2026-27 state budget. The Slater Community Center will use the funds to update group fitness equipment and purchase new strength-training and cardio machines.
“The Slater Center is an incredible asset for our community, with classes, services and programs that make a real difference in the lives of Bristol residents,” said Crawford. “I congratulate the staff for the work they have done to make this facility such an important part of Sullivan County, and I look forward to seeing what they accomplish through this significant investment.”
The DDA awarded $5 million to 122 senior centers in 71 counties across Tennessee. Individual grants range from $5,000 to $50,000. Funding can support capital projects, marketing, programming, activities and routine operating expenses.
