NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Debra Moody, R-Covington, was appointed Jan. 16 by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to serve as chair of the House Calendar and Rules Committee for the 114th Tennessee General Assembly.

“Representative Debra Moody has shown a deep commitment and understanding to the legislative process,” said Sexton. “As chairman of the Calendar and Rules Committee, Debra’s leadership will be key in ensuring the efficient and effective flow of legislation through the General Assembly before bills proceed to the House floor.”

The Calendar and Rules Committee schedules bills for consideration on third and final reading and entertains debate on the merits of legislation recommended for passage by the standing committees.

“I’m grateful to Speaker Sexton for his confidence in my abilities and I thank him for the opportunity to chair this important committee,” Moody said. “Ensuring the government is effectively doing the business of the people is necessary for our state to prosper. I look forward to paving the way for the House to swiftly deliver results for all Tennesseans.”

Moody has represented District 81 in the House of Representatives since 2013. She previously served as chair of the House Education Instruction Committee.

During the 114th General Assembly, Moody will also serve on the Finance, Ways and Means Committee, Insurance Committee, Appropriations and Oversight Subcommittee and TennCare Subcommittee.

The 114th General Assembly officially convened on Jan. 14 and completed its organizational meeting with the appointment of committees by Speaker Sexton.
