NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Mark White, R-Memphis, was reappointed Jan. 16 by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to serve as chairman of the House Education Committee for the 114th Tennessee General Assembly.

“Chairman Mark White is a stalwart for education in Tennessee, and his continuous commitment to empowering students, parents and educators makes him the ideal choice to lead the Education Committee,” said Sexton. “His leadership will ensure that every student in Tennessee has access to a quality education.” 

White will serve his fourth term overseeing the 20-member committee responsible for state laws governing education. This includes curricula, lunch programs, and schools up to the university level; pay, benefits and retirement for teachers, school employees, bus drivers and administrators; vocational-technical education; and adult education.

“I thank Speaker Sexton for his continued support and confidence in me as chairman of this committee, which has an immense impact on students across Tennessee,” White said. “I’m committed to ensuring students and school districts have the funding, resources and support required to excel. I look forward to continuing to find proven and innovative ways to improve educational outcomes for all students in the Volunteer State.”

White is a former school teacher who serves as director of student recruitment for the College of Leadership and Public Service master’s program at Lipscomb University. He has represented House District 83 since 2010.

During this legislative session, he will also serve on the K-12 Subcommittee, Education Administration Subcommittee, Health Committee and Calendar and Rules Committee.

State Rep. Mark White represents House District 83, which includes part of Shelby County.
