Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, has appointed State Rep. Sabi “Doc” Kumar, R-Springfield, as chairman of the House Insurance Committee for the 114th General Assembly.
“As chairman of the Insurance Committee, Dr. Kumar will provide strong leadership in tackling critical issues, ensuring accessible and affordable insurance options, and promoting policies that benefit all Tennesseans,” said Speaker Sexton. “Dr. Kumar brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and a thoughtful approach to his position.”
The 19-member committee is responsible for legislative oversight of laws related to the insurance industry.
“I am honored to serve as chairman of the House Insurance Committee and look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that Tennesseans have access to affordable, reliable insurance options,” said Rep. Sabi “Doc” Kumar. “Together, we will focus on promoting policies that benefit the people of Tennessee, while addressing the evolving challenges in the insurance industry.”
First elected in 2015, Kumar is serving his sixth term representing House District 66. In addition to chairing the Insurance Committee, he will serve on the Health Committee, Population Health Subcommittee, Insurance Subcommittee, TennCare Subcommittee and Calendar and Rules Committee during this legislative session.
