NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Clay Doggett, R-Pulaski, was reappointed Jan. 16 by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to continue serving as chairman of the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee for the 114th Tennessee General Assembly.
“Representative Doggett has demonstrated a strong commitment to public safety and upholding the rule of law,” said Sexton. “As chairman of the Criminal Justice Subcommittee, Clay’s experience as a law enforcement officer will be essential in advancing policies that protect Tennesseans and ensure law and order is upheld.”
The nine-member Criminal Justice Subcommittee is an arm of the House Judiciary Committee, which oversees laws governing courts, judicial proceedings, civil procedure, private and governmental civil liability and criminal law, including procedure, offenses, penalties, and sentencing.
“One of the most important functions of government is to provide public safety to citizens,” Doggett said. “Republicans in the General Assembly have worked tirelessly to make our criminal justice system more efficient, transparent and accountable. I’m grateful to Speaker Sexton for his confidence in me, and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to find ways to keep all Tennesseans safe.”
This will be Doggett’s third term serving as chair of the Criminal Justice Subcommittee. A small business owner and former law enforcement officer from Giles County, Doggett has represented District 70 in the House of Representatives since 2019.
During the 114th General Assembly, Doggett will also serve on the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, Judiciary Committee, Children and Family Affairs Subcommittee, and Private Acts Committee.
The 114th General Assembly officially convened on Jan. 14 and completed its organizational meeting with the appointment of committees by Speaker Sexton.
State Rep. Clay Doggett represents House District 70, which includes Giles and part of Lawrence and Lincoln counties.
