NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Mike Sparks, R-Smyrna, is encouraging residents of House District 49 to download the SafeTN app to help keep schools and communities across Tennessee safe.
The SafeTN app is an anonymous reporting system that sends tips to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security to review, assess and send along to law enforcement, response teams or school administrators to intervene.
“There is a mental health crisis in our state and nation and we must do everything we can to keep our citizens safe,” Sparks said. “The SafeTN app is an excellent resource for parents, students and community members to submit potentially life-saving tips or to find help for themselves. This app has the potential to prevent tragedies, and I encourage all residents of Rutherford County to be aware of its benefits so that we can keep our community safe.”
The department encourages Tennesseans to report various behaviors and incidents including assault, sexual misconduct, threats of violence and harm to self or others. The SafeTN app provides help and resources for issues relating to mental health, bullying and substance abuse.
The SafeTN app is available for free on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
People experiencing a mental health emergency are encouraged to call the Tennessee statewide crisis line at 855-CRISIS-1 (855-274-7471) or to text or call 988 to reach the national suicide and crisis lifeline.
State Rep. Mike Sparks lives in Smyrna and represents House District 49, which includes Smyrna, La Vergne, north Murfreesboro and the Almaville community.
