State Rep. Ryan Williams, R-Cookeville, has secured $1.25 million in state funding for Putnam County to enhance local parks.

The funding will be used by the Parks and Recreation Department for new tennis courts at the Cookeville Community Center and lighting for the soccer and lacrosse fields at the Putnam County Sports Complex.

“Excellent parks and recreation centers have an immense impact on a community’s overall well-being and quality of life,” said Williams. “This investment will enhance access to the many great opportunities the Putnam County Parks and Recreation department offers. I’m grateful to my colleagues for recognizing the importance of these projects, and I’m eager to see the completed tennis courts and sports complex lighting systems.”

The existing tennis courts at the community center will be demolished and replaced.

Projects funded by this appropriation will help ensure residents of Putnam County continue to have access to safe and reliable facilities to train and compete.

The appropriated funds are part of a $59.8 billion balanced budget that was passed by the General Assembly and guided by Finance, Ways and Means Subcommittee Chair Ryan Williams in April. Republican priorities included making significant investments in community services, disaster relief for Hurricane Helene victims, rural hospital support and health care investments, safety and security improvements and transportation infrastructure needs while also providing more than $640 million to K-12 education.

State Rep. Ryan Williams of Cookeville represents District 42 in the Tennessee House of Representatives, which includes part of Putnam County. He is chairman of the Finance, Ways and Means Subcommittee and also serves on the Finance, Ways and Means Committee, Health Committee, Appropriations and Oversight Subcommittee, Health Subcommittee, and Select Committee on Rules.
