State Rep. Kirk Haston, R-Lobelville, announced $102,000 in state funding was awarded to the City of Parsons by the Tennessee Arts Commission.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Kirk Haston, R-Lobelville, announced $102,000 in state funding was awarded to the City of Parsons by the Tennessee Arts Commission.

Funding will be used to install a covered pavilion at the Parsons Regional Community Park and repair the leaky metal roof on the Hangar Performing Arts Center, according to the commission.

“The Regional Community Park and Hangar Performing Arts Center are pillars of Parsons and this grant will help ensure they continue serving our community for years to come,” Haston said. “I’m grateful to the Tennessee Arts Commission for their support and look forward to the positive impact these upgrades will bring.”

The Parsons Regional Community Park currently features a playground, a splash pad, baseball fields, picnic tables and restrooms.

Formerly an airplane maintenance hangar, The Hangar Performing Arts Center is now a 237-seat theater that hosts stage productions like Steel Magnolias and Smoke on the Mountain.

Area nonprofit organizations, schools, local governments and individuals across the state were given grants through the commission’s annual grant program to cultivate the arts for the benefit of all Tennesseans and their communities.

Tennessee’s nonprofit arts and culture industry generates $1.4 billion in annual economic activity and strengthens quality of life, economic vitality, tourism and arts learning for people of all ages.

The commission says they anticipate to award approximately 1,000 grants totaling up to $12.3 million in both rural and urban communities in all 95 counties throughout the next year.
