NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Lowell Russell, R-Vonore, joined healthcare professionals and students at Roane State Community College in Loudon to celebrate National Surgical Technologists Week.

Russell presented a proclamation signed by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, recognizing the importance of surgical technologists to the healthcare field.

“Surgical technologists play a vital role in making sure surgeons have the right tools and a sterile environment to keep patients safe and ensure successful procedures,” Russell said. “Roane State’s surgical technology program has a proven track record of producing highly skilled, dedicated healthcare professionals. I’m proud to present this proclamation in recognition of their hard work and continued success.”

This year, National Surgical Technologists Week is recognized Sept. 21-27.

It is hosted by the Association of Surgical Technologists, a national, nonprofit membership organization with more than 55,000 professionals who hold the certified surgical technologist (CST) credential.
