State Rep. Kip Capley, R-Summertown,, today announced senior centers in Lawrence and Wayne counties will receive a combined $65,000 in state grants to improve facilities and expand services for older adults.

The funding is part of a $5 million initiative administered by the Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging (DDA) to support 125 senior centers statewide. The grants were approved in the 2025-26 state budget, which includes a $42.5 million allocation to enhance emergency and community services for Tennessee’s aging population.

Local recipients include:

  • Lawrence County Senior Center: $50,000
  • Wayne County Senior Citizens, Inc.: $15,000

“These centers provide important opportunities for older Tennesseans to stay active, social and engaged,” Capley said. “I am grateful this funding will help enhance the programs and services they offer in Lawrence and Wayne counties.”

Funds may be used for building improvements, equipment, marketing, activities, programming and other routine operating expenses, excluding staff salaries.
