NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Lowell Russell, R-Vonore, announced the 134th Air Refueling Wing of the Tennessee Air National Guard has been selected to receive the next generation of air refueling aircraft, the KC-46 Pegasus.
In February, Russell sponsored House Joint Resolution 36 recognizing the Knoxville-based unit stationed at McGhee-Tyson Air National Guard Base (ANGB) and urging the U.S. Air Force to select the unit to house the new aircraft.

“I’m thrilled to hear the KC-46 will soon call East Tennessee home,” Russell said. “This decision reflects the exceptional work of the men and women of the 134th Air Refueling Wing and their unwavering commitment to serve. Congratulations to everyone involved!”
The KC-46 Pegasus was developed by the U.S. Air Force to replace the aging fleet of KC-135 Stratotankers, which first entered service more than 60 years ago.
This selection will bring infrastructure modernization and new career opportunities to McGhee Tyson ANGB, according to the Tennessee Department of Military.
The transition is expected to take place over the next several years with construction and training milestones occurring in phases.
Lowell Russell represents District 21 in the Tennessee House of Representatives which includes part of Loudon and Monroe counties.
