NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Tom Stinnett, R-Friendsville, was appointed by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to serve as vice-chairman of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee for the 2026 legislative session.

Stinnett, who’s serving his first term in the Tennessee House of Representatives, spent most of his 40-year career in education teaching Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses like woodworking and other trades skills in Maryville City Schools.  

“Representative Tom Stinnett has shown a clear commitment to supporting Tennessee’s farmers and rural communities,” Sexton said. “He is well-qualified to serve as vice-chair of the Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee, and I’m confident he will help advance policies that strengthen Tennessee agriculture and protect our natural resources.”

The Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee has legislative oversight over all laws pertaining to energy, forestry, natural resources, conservation, and game and fish. The committee is also charged with overseeing environmental matters, military parks and tourism.

“Supporting our farmers and safeguarding our land and natural resources is vital to Tennessee’s future,” Stinnett said. “I appreciate the trust Speaker Sexton has placed in me and look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to protect our state’s natural beauty and agricultural heritage.”  

Stinnett also serves on the Judiciary Committee, Agriculture & Natural Resources Subcommittee and Civil Justice Subcommittee.

Tom Stinnett represents District 20 which includes part of Blount County.
