Legislation builds on Tennessee Republicans’ pro-family agenda
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Gov. Bill Lee this week signed legislation by State Rep. Gino Bulso, R-Brentwood, to support expectant mothers with high-risk pregnancies in Tennessee.
House Bill 1457 adds high-risk pregnant women to the list of individuals who qualify for a temporary disabled parking permit. A physician must certify the high-risk status of a woman’s pregnancy.
“Tennessee is one of the most pro-life states in the nation, and this legislation strengthens that commitment by helping ease some of the challenges associated with high-risk pregnancies,” said Bulso. “Strong families are vital to a prosperous state, and I’m committed to encouraging and supporting expectant mothers as they prepare to welcome new life into the world.”
Temporary and permanent disabled parking placards are currently available to Tennesseans with a variety of disabling conditions, including wheelchair use, difficulty walking, or 20/200 vision or worse with corrective lenses. They can also be issued to people using braces or crutches, those with pulmonary or cardiac conditions, and parents of permanently disabled children.
Florida and Illinois have passed laws allowing expectant mothers to park in accessible parking spaces. Several other states are considering similar measures.
Tennessee ranks among the most pro-life states in the nation, and Republicans continue to encourage strong families and protect the most vulnerable in our society.
House Bill 1457 takes effect Jan. 1, 2027.
State Rep. Gino Bulso represents District 61 in the Tennessee House of Representatives, which includes part of Williamson County.
