NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Jake McCalmon, R-Franklin, has secured $400,000 in state funding to support re-entry, workforce and housing initiatives for human trafficking survivors across Tennessee.

Funds will be administered to Thistle Farms, a nonprofit dedicated to helping justice-involved survivors of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

“Thistle Farms does extraordinary work helping women rebuild their lives after experiencing horrific and unimaginable circumstances,” said McCalmon. “This investment builds on Tennessee’s commitment to supporting victims by funding critical programs that will improve access to housing, workforce opportunities and long-term stability. I’m grateful for the impact of this organization in communities across our state, and I look forward to seeing the lives that will continue to be changed through its mission.”

The organization helps women earn income through job training, professional development and employment. It also provides free housing and trauma therapy while seeking to address the root causes of commercial sexual exploitation.

The appropriated funds are part of a $58.3 billion balanced budget passed by lawmakers in April. Republican priorities include significant investments to boost academic outcomes, strengthen infrastructure, improve access to health care and promote safe communities across Tennessee.

Lawmakers also made significant investments in behavioral health, social services and children and families, including $1.7 million in recurring grants to non-profit partners that combat human trafficking and support survivors.

State Rep. Jake McCalmon represents District 63 in the Tennessee House of Representatives, which includes part of Williamson County.
