State Rep. Justin Lafferty, R-Knoxville, has been appointed by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to serve as chairman of the House Government Operations Committee for the 114th General Assembly which convened Jan. 14.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Justin Lafferty, R-Knoxville, has been appointed by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to serve as chairman of the House Government Operations Committee for the 114th General Assembly which convened Jan. 14.
Lafferty, a real estate professional and small business owner, has worked diligently to build a successful life for his family while serving his community. He was first elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 2018. At home, he is a proud husband and father.
“It is a great responsibility to serve as chairman of the House Government Operations Committee, and I am grateful to Speaker Sexton for entrusting me with this role,” Lafferty said. “We will address important issues this session, and I look forward to working with the committee members to ensure our government runs efficiently.”
The Government Operations Committee reviews state agencies, administrative rules and fundamental changes to the state government structure. It also handles legislation that creates, modifies or terminates boards or commissions.

Justin Lafferty’s experience and understanding of government processes and commitment to transparency make him the ideal choice to lead the Government Operations Committee,” Sexton said. “I have full confidence in his ability to drive meaningful reform and ensure efficiency within our state government.”
Lafferty has served as a member of the Government Operations Committee during each of his terms since being elected in 2018. Most recently, he chaired the Higher Education Subcommittee during the 113th General Assembly. Prior to that, he served as chairman of the Judiciary and Government Subcommittee, a former branch of the Government Operations Committee.
Along with his chairmanship, he will also serve on the Commerce Committee, Insurance Committee, Calendar & Rules Committee and Business & Utilities Subcommittee.
