NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Chris Todd, R-Madison County, was appointed Jan. 27 by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to serve as chair of the House Immigration Committee for the First Extraordinary Session of the 114th Tennessee General Assembly.
The Immigration Committee was tasked with reviewing immigration-related legislation to improve public safety and position Tennessee for more efficient and effective federal policy implementation.
“The Biden Administration’s purposeful failure to enforce our nation’s immigration laws ushered in one of the worst border crises in our history and put Americans’ lives at risk,” Todd said. “As President Trump begins to reverse these harmful trends, Tennessee will continue to prioritize keeping our citizens safe while working with the new administration to implement its policy goals and enforce existing immigration laws. We need to work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to get criminals out of our communities. I thank Speaker Sexton for trusting me to chair this committee and I look forward to delivering impactful results to the people of Tennessee.”
Gov. Bill Lee has proposed creating a temporary Centralized Immigration Enforcement Division (CIED) within the Tennessee Department of Safety for efficient resource allocation and effective enforcement of immigration laws, in addition to other measures to improve public safety in the Volunteer State.
Todd was also appointed to serve on the Finance Committee and the Calendar and Rules Committee for the Extraordinary Session. He continues to chair the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee in the 114th General Assembly.
Todd has represented House District 73 in the General Assembly since 2019.
