NASHVILLE, Tenn. — State Representative Ron Gant (R-Rossville) and State Senator Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville)said today that they have been informed by Secretary of State Tre Hargett that both the Fayette County Archives and the Hardeman County Archives will receive archives development grants.
Fayette County Archives will receive $4,500 for archival shelving, while Hardeman County Archives has been awarded $3,850 for folders and boxes. Materials supported by this funding will assist both facilities in the preservation, arrangement, and description of historical records.
“This is great news for our local archives,” said Representative Gant. “I appreciate Secretary Hargett’s investment in our communities, and I know these funds will ensure our important historical documents and records live on so they can be accessed by future generations of our citizens. This will help them better understand the significant events that shaped our history in both Fayette and Hardeman Counties.”
“I am pleased that these efforts to preserve and pass on the record of Fayette and Hardeman County’s history has been so successful,” added Senator Gresham. “The county archives have much to be proud of, and we were happy to support their grant application. The next generation won’t know the history of our counties unless we preserve it. These funds will aid in that effort.”
