NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Matthew Hill, R-Jonesborough, today announced he is seeking reelection to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 2020.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of District 7,” Hill said. “I always put the community’s concerns first, and I pledge to continue serving as a voice for each citizen of our district.”
Since his election to the House of Representatives in 2004, Rep. Hill has been a faithful advocate for conservative causes.
He has consistently fought to protect the lives of the unborn and our most vulnerable citizens. Most recently Hill cosponsored the “Heartbeat Bill,” which is historic and groundbreaking pro-life legislation that protects life by banning abortion procedures when a fetal heartbeat is detected after six weeks. Hill in 2019 led negotiations to establish the Katie Beckett Waiver program, which alleviates financial burdens for families whose children need lifesaving medical services.
Hill is a staunch defender of the second amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, having supported efforts to enact constitutional carry in Tennessee this year.
As Chairman of the House Finance, Ways, & Means Appropriations Subcommittee, Hill has been committed to implementing fiscally responsible decisions in the state’s budget-making process. He has been instrumental in ensuring the state’s budget is balanced each year. Hill has pushed to secure increased investments in Tennessee’s Rainy Day fund, which now stands at a record $1.45 billion.
During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Hill has worked tirelessly to assist his constituents with their unemployment concerns.
“Our state has faced and will continue to face many challenges during this unprecedented time,” Hill said. “It is necessary to have principled and experienced leaders in our state to ensure Tennessee remains the best place in the nation to live, work, raise a family, and retire. I would be honored to continue to fight for the people of Washington County.”
Rep. Matthew Hill served as Deputy Speaker in the 111th General Assembly and chaired the House Finance, Ways, & Means Appropriations Subcommittee and the House Select Committee on Rules. He is a member of the Finance, Ways, & Means, Calendar & Rules, Health, and Insurance Committees. Rep. Hill also serves on the Finance, Ways, & Means, Public Health, and Facilities, Licensure, & Regulations Subcommittees. Hill resides in Jonesborough and represents part of Washington County.
